Cleaning & lubrication

Sand and grit are the enemy of anything that slides or swings. A packed track or a dry hinge makes panels drag and wears parts out early. A proper clean and the right lubrication of tracks, rollers and moving hardware brings the movement back and makes everything last longer.

Sound familiar?

  • Panel drags or feels gritty as it slides
  • Track visibly packed with sand, dust or debris
  • Rollers wearing out faster than they should
  • Grinding or scraping sound along the track

Likely causes

Debris in the track

Sand, dust, hair and grit build up and jam the running surface.

Wrong or no lubrication

Missing or greasy lubricant makes it worse, dry sliding tracks need the right product.

Neglected maintenance

Tracks that are never cleaned wear rollers prematurely.

Safety: Low-risk maintenance. Avoid spraying oily lubricants into tracks yourself, they attract more sand and make dragging worse; a dry-type lubricant is usually correct for sliding tracks.

What a photo tells us

Send a clear photo and we can usually gauge:

  • How much debris and wear is visible in the track
  • Whether cleaning alone will help or rollers are already worn
  • The system type for the right servicing approach

Repair or replace?

This is preventive maintenance, not replacement. Regular track cleaning and correct lubrication extends the life of rollers and seals. If the rollers are already worn, we combine cleaning with a roller replacement, see sliding-door repair.

In a sandy environment, regularly. Building it into routine maintenance keeps panels gliding and protects the rollers, which are more expensive to replace.
