Tilt & turn window repair

Tilt-and-turn windows rely on precise multi-point hardware. When the handle jams, the sash sticks between tilt and turn, or it will not lock, it is nearly always the mechanism, and it is adjustable or repairable.

tilt turn

Sound familiar?

  • Handle is stuck or will not turn to a position
  • Sash stuck between tilt and turn, or opens both ways at once
  • Will not lock or seal shut
  • Drops, drags or catches on the frame
  • Draughts or whistling around the sash

Likely causes

Multi-point mechanism out of adjustment

The locking points drift out of line, so it jams or will not seat.

Worn or broken hardware

Gearing, keeps or hinges wear and need replacing.

Perished gaskets

Old seals cause draughts and poor closing.

Handle in the wrong position

Operating out of sequence can jam the sash, often recoverable.

Safety: If a sash is only held on one point (opening both ways at once), keep it supported and do not let it swing free, note this in your enquiry so we prioritise it.

What a photo tells us

Send a clear photo and we can usually gauge:

  • The window and handle position
  • Any visible broken gearing, keeps or hinges
  • Gasket condition around the sash
  • Whether the sash sits square in the frame

Repair or replace?

Tilt-and-turn faults are almost always the hardware, not the window. Adjusting or replacing the mechanism, keeps, hinges or gaskets restores both actions. Full replacement is rarely needed unless the frame or glass has failed.
